Prep

Last updated: 8 October 2026

In short: Prep doesn’t collect any of your data. There are no accounts, adverts, analytics or tracking. Your stock, household and history are stored on your devices and in your own private iCloud, which only you can access. The only time Prep contacts another service is when you look up a barcode, which sends that barcode number to Open Food Facts.

Who We Are

Prep is made by Gruffydd Johnston (“we”, “us”). If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at hello@veglog.app.

Information We Collect

None. We don’t operate any servers that receive information from the app, and we can’t see your stock, your household or anything else you put into Prep.

What You Put Into Prep

To work out how long your supplies would last, Prep stores what you enter:

  • your stock: item names, brands, categories, quantities, expiry dates, storage locations, barcodes, nutrition figures, notes and any product photos;
  • your household: the people and pets you add (a name of your choosing, such as “Adult 1”, and their daily food and water needs);
  • your kits and checklists, such as a grab bag;
  • a history of what you’ve used or thrown out, which powers the charts;
  • your settings, such as your goal and reminder times.

You don’t have to enter anything that identifies you.

Your Data and iCloud

Everything above is saved on your device. If you’re signed in to iCloud, it’s also synced between your devices using Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) in your private database. That data belongs to your Apple Account and is protected by Apple; we have no access to it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

The Prep Apple Watch app and widgets show a small summary of your stock. It’s passed directly between your iPhone and Apple Watch, and between Prep and its widgets on the same device. It never goes through us.

Barcode Lookup

When you scan or type a barcode, Prep sends that barcode number to Open Food Facts, an open, non-profit product database, to fill in the product’s name, brand and nutrition, and to download its photo. No other information about you or your stock is sent. Like any website, Open Food Facts can see your device’s IP address when it answers the request; see their privacy policy.

Camera

The camera is used only to read barcodes, and only when you choose to scan. The image is processed on your device and isn’t saved or sent anywhere.

Apple Intelligence, Siri and Reminders

On supported devices, “Type or say it” turns a sentence like “six tins of beans, best before March” into stock using Apple Intelligence on your device. If you dictate, Apple’s keyboard dictation handles it. If you ask Siri or Shortcuts about your supplies, Apple processes the request and Prep answers on your device. Expiry and kit-check reminders are scheduled on your device, not sent from a server.

Exports

CSV exports are created on your device and go only where you choose to send or save them.

Subscriptions and Payments

Prep Premium is sold and managed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, Apple Account or payment details. The app checks with the App Store, on your device, which plan you have so it can unlock Premium. Apple’s handling of purchases is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

What We Don’t Do

  • We don’t collect analytics, usage statistics or crash reports through the app. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may pass us anonymous crash reports.
  • We don’t show adverts or use advertising identifiers.
  • We don’t track you across other apps or websites.
  • We don’t use your data to train AI models.
  • We don’t sell or share personal information.

Deleting Your Data

You can delete individual items, batches, kits and household members in the app. To delete everything, delete the app, and remove the iCloud copy in the Settings app under your name › iCloud › Manage Storage › Prep. You can take a copy of your stock and history first with Export to CSV in the Household screen.

Your Rights

Because we don’t collect or hold any personal information about you, there’s nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on our side. Everything is on your devices and in your own iCloud, where you stay in control of it. If you have a question about your privacy, email us and we’ll help. If you’re in the UK, you can also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Children

Prep is a general household app. It doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date above. If the app ever starts sending your data anywhere new, we’ll say so here and in the app before that happens.
